Towards a Sustainable Future in Sloterdijk

GBC Sloterdijk‘s ambitious targets will fundamentally change how our area operates, creating a model for sustainability that inspires our community.

Our Four Key Ambitions for 2028

GBC Sloterdijk has set concrete targets across four domains to transform Sloterdijk into a sustainable, vibrant, and future-proof district by 2028.

Circularity & Waste

Energy Transition

Climate Adaptation

Mobility & Logistics

Target Year

Circularity & Waste
Circularity

Circularity & Waste

We're transforming Sloterdijk into a closed-loop system where waste is eliminated and resources are continuously reused. From procurement policies to waste management, we're implementing circular principles across all operations.

Goals for 2028

  • Waste flows, water, and energy usage mapped and agreements made with participating companies about circular procurement
  • Within five years, companies return a maximum of 20% residual waste
  • Construction materials reused
  • Circular use of water
  • Implement material passports for new buildings
  • Establish a local materials exchange platform
Energy Transition
Energy

Energy Transition

Our goal is to eliminate fossil fuel dependency by transitioning all energy needs to renewable sources. We're installing solar, partnering with green energy providers, and optimizing energy efficiency across all facilities.

Goals for 2028

  • 60% free from natural gas
  • A collective vision on energy and a concrete plan of approach
  • Inventory of rooftops to determine suitability for solar panels or green roofs
  • First energy cooperative where locally generated energy is consumed and returned
  • By 2028, a 50% CO₂ reduction compared to 1990
  • Increased green energy production, redistribution of residual flows among companies
  • Energy-neutral building standards for all new construction
Climate Adaptation
Climate

Climate Adaptation

We're creating a climate-resilient business district by implementing innovative solutions to combat extreme heat, flooding, and water scarcity. Our comprehensive approach includes green infrastructure, water management systems, and nature-based solutions.

Goals for 2028

  • Risks and opportunities regarding heat stress and water overload identified and shared with affected businesses
  • Sloterdijk is rainproof by 2028. Urgent areas addressed with rainproof measures, drastically reducing water overload risk
  • By 2028, 20% of water is reused
  • High-risk heat stress zones addressed with ecological solutions
  • Increase of 10 hectares of green through tile removal and (mobile) planting in 2028
  • New developments follow ecological principles
  • Five new blue-green roofs realized
Mobility & Logistics
Mobility

Mobility & Logistics

We're redesigning Sloterdijk's mobility systems to prioritize walking, cycling, and clean transit options. By reducing private vehicle usage and implementing innovative transportation solutions, we'll create a more accessible, less polluted area.

Goals for 2028

  • Positive impact through waste reduction, streamlining, and increased circular or local logistics flows
  • Promote flexible and sustainable mobility policies for employees
  • 50% CO₂ emissions reduction (2024 baseline)
  • Commuting and business travel in flexible, sustainable ways
  • Encourage carpooling and shared electric transport
  • Align mobility policy with area development of Amsterdam Sloterdijk
  • Expand EV charging infrastructure throughout the district
